Why aren't the beta blockers effective against thyroid?

claude720 posted 2 weeks ago

I found out I have hyperthyroidism a month ago after having severe symptoms the last year. Other symptoms over a few years. I’ve been on beta blockers the last month. Was not working or helping my symptoms at all. I can’t see the endocrinologist for another month. I went to the hospital and got new medicine to take beta blocker steroid for 10 days and another medicine. So far it’s day 3 and haven’t noticed any difference.

Are you on any thyroid meds? If yes it can take awhile. I'm on Methimazole and beta blocker since June and still don't feel any difference.

Hyperthyroidism or overactive thyroid results in increased production of thyroid hormones from the thyroid gland. It can be primary or secondary and presents with signs of accelerated metabolism such as weight loss and tachycardia. Decreased tolerance to heat and irritability are also common. Radioactive iodine administration and medication to control heartbeat are recommended.
